Keats in Bright Star and Shakespeare in Sonnet 18, Sonnet 55 and Sonnet 64 gave us multi interpretations of love. Whose ideas of love can you relate to? Or perhaps their ideas of love are so out of this world that you are scratching your head to figure out what they are saying about love.Or maybe they know next to nothing about love. The scent of love will captivate everyone like the mist of vanilla musk in the air on a Valentine’s Day. It is wonderful to be in love, when everyone is so blissful. Thus, love possesses the power of making the world a better place for you and me.
But, the truth about the thorns is like a forgotten labyrinth underneath an ancient tomb. Sometimes, love can be as horrid as the imagery of ghosts in the fairy tale. Once hurt, the pain will haunt you eternally. No potions for the broken hearted. It can be violent. It can be silent. Until another summer, where the red roses bloom, you’ll be left on your own.

Love is something that was a mystery for me. We do not actually know when we love someone. But when we lost him we will feel that we lost something valuable in my life. When we in love with someone, we feel like he was everything for us. He bring light in our life. I will feel so calm when I beside the person who I love. Even though I had experienced frustration in love, but I believe that someday, I will find my true love. Everyone had their own love soul. I hope I will find someone soon, someone who will accept me for who I am.
Love means that we complete each other. Our love one will complete us in the other way. When I was in love, I will have a strength to face any obstacle that come in front of me especially when he beside me and support me with his pure love. Pure love is something that we can’t see but if we try to feel it with our heart and soul, we will know if someone sincerely in love with us. ReplyDeleteFairy tales and even most contemporary novels and movies on love create a 'happy ever after' illusion to us. Does love really mean 'happy ever after'? Pure love, true love or eternal love? All I know the one you choose to be with might not be the one you love the most. The one you choose to leave might be the one you love the most. Like the poems, the love to someone remains in lines, my love to someone shall remain in my heart. We value things the most when we know we will never get it. It's hurt to feel this way but there is eternity in the love that I keep in my heart. It is the best to stay this way because I do not wish to destroy this relationship whereby we acknowledge each other but never go deeper than that. Love does not only mean physically connected but also mentally connected.

For me, love has a power to destroy and build amazing things as well. I describe this as Samson and Delilah, his loves towards Delilah had destroyed himself and his kingdom as well. ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, love is something abstract. Something that we can’t feel with our 5 sense but we can feel it with our heart. Some people said, love is as sweet as candy, some say it is bitter, some also say it is indescribable. From the sonnet that I have read, it says that love is last forever or eternity. There are also sonnets that say the love didn’t last forever. For me, as I know nothing about love because I have never been in love; I think love depends on how we want it to be.
One of my best friends once is really in love with her boyfriend. But it turn out that their love didn’t last long as they expect. My friend is so hurt, but life goes on. She learns to forget it even its killing her softly from the inside. Now, she can go on with her life happily. But the love that she once feel, have become one of the spices in her life. She has experienced the love, and now it becomes one thing that colored her heart.
As for my another friend, she has and still is in a relationship with her one and only boyfriend. To be honest, I always wondering how can she feel that way towards a person who has no connection with her at all. I always ask her, “How can you feel that way towards him?” “How do you know that he is the one for you?” “Is the love is as sweet as people always say it is?” and many other questions. But she just smiles at me and say that I only will know the answers if I experience the feeling of love. And there I am, still wondering what really love is….?
In a nutshell, I still can’t really figure out what love is because I still haven’t find my ‘person to love’ yet. But I think someday, somehow and somewhere I will found my love and I will know the answer for all of my questions. For now, I still have no idea about it.

Sonnet 64 on the other hand brings about the idea that even love will die off in time......
Those are what Shakespeare had to say about love.
Keats said that love is the only thing worth living for, or else it is better to die, in his sonnet Bright star..
what do i feel about love??? I have never been in love before this, perhaps i have faced infatuations......But honestly.....What is love...i have wondered.....
I love to read romance novels, that gives me the idea of perfect love, but i know that reality is nowhere near that fantasy.....
Like all other emotions, love also has it's imperfections......but i belive in one thing.....Life is better imperfect, as there will be room to improve, adapt and enjoy....Being perfect is always too rigid...
Anyway...here is an interpretation that was in my head...all about LOVE.....
Love is so beautiful, that when it captures one's heart, it makes the person giddy with pleasure. Love is kind, it brings pasion to life. Love even has the power of melting the hardest of hearts, as it comes with the quality of patience.... love cares, love heals, love is tender and love makes one's life worth living...it gives purpose for life.....OLove can bring about changes to a life, such as the changes a storm can bring to a desert.......
That was the beautiful side of love....
But there is also a kind of love that can be destructive....Obsssesive love, a love that is all about possesing, being possesed...A love that bends towards destruction......A love that only can end in destruction.....
Again, there is also love that only borders on lust.....A love that cannot exist in true terms...The word love is misused.... when actually all that was there was nothing but lust.....This love dies off with time, like the changing seasons and time....
Love....again....is merely an emotion....love can be kind...it can alkso be cruel....
Love.....it can be the only source of living for some...and merely a plaything for others.....
Thus, in the end of the day, it is up to the souls in love to decide how they want to allow love to capture them....and how they want love to influence their life.....

We may greet Love in good way such as words of ‘I Love You‘, or even hate as the words of ‘I “Love” You!’.

My idea of love is more like Sonnet 064: When I Have Seen by Time’s Fell Hand Defaced by William Shakespeare. For me love is like a cake. When you have a piece of cake, it will melt in your mouth and give you this delightful feeling and makes you want it for more. But when you have too much of cakes, even though it will not affect the taste, it will eventually affect your body. As we all know cakes contain high levels of calories. So if you eat it too much, it will make you fat and sick sooner or later.
The same goes with love. If you love someone with all your heart, you will suffer if that special someone breaks your heart. Moreover, love does not last forever, nothing last forever. You will lose your loves in many ways. Either your love one leaves you when they find new love or they just…die. And when this happened, you cannot do anything, you can grieve as much as you want but you will never get to taste the same love again. Love can be a good thing or vice versa. Depends on the individual how they see and how they feel about love.

It bonds them and connects them in a unified link of trust, intimacy and interdependence. It enhances the relationship and comforts the soul. Love should be experienced and not just felt. The depth of love can’t be measured. For example, just look at the relationship between a mother and a child. The mother loves the child unconditionally and it can’t be measured at all. A different dimension can be attained between any relationships with the magic of love.
Love can be created. You just need to focus on the goodness of the other person. If this can be done easily, then you can also love easily. And remember we all have some positive aspect in us, no matter how bad our deeds maybe and as God said to love all. In Sonnet 64, William Shakespeare scrutinizes the idea of losing his loved one to Time, and views Time as an agent of Death. Shakespeare’s reference to ‘outworn buried age’ demonstrates the idea of his loved one being consumed or worn out by time and age. When we love someone so much, we will be afraid of losing them. So, as a conclusion, love is pure and when you love someone, love them, take care of them and don’t ever play with others feeling.

Love is a very subjective feeling. For me, in order to understand love one has to feel it wholly which is to be connected physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. It has to come from the feeling of passion that lies deep rooted within us. In order to achieve this kind of passionate love, one has to let go of themselves and experience this feeling of euphoria and sensation. It is a feeling that can't be denied, forbidden at times, stirring our emotions into turmoils of swirling oceans though sometimes it threatens to disrupt something else that we need in life. It hurts sometimes, more than any feeling we can bear, the desire, the longing to enjoy this thing that all of us are capable of. It all depends on us, how far we are able to let go and lose ourself to this ecstasy called love.. Love guides us into seeking meaning and understanding in our life. In keats, we will see that the persona had a bad moment with love. Because he wish that he is strong like the star above although the star is alone in the sky, it will still shining brightly. He also feel that he cannot life without his love. These means taht he suffer out of love.
As for shakespeares, in sonnet 55, he interpreted that his love will last forever in his poem, as long as someone read his poem with love, the love that he feels will last forever. It is same like in sonnet 18..But in sonnet 64 it different.. because he is afraid that he will lost his love.
As for me, the poem that is close to me is keats poem.. love made us strong, love also make us weak. Once you feel that love, you will be like in heaven or walking on the air. But once you lost it, the pain will remain forever. Its like when u carve someone name at the stone, its hard to erased that. Same as love. Love is happiness and love is pain. When you love someone, you must remember that you will lost that person someday. Yes its hurt, but you need to be strong, because your life is not going to end because of one guy.

Love should not be compared to anything because once you start to compare it with other things or people around you, you will see the "dark" side of the love.And at last, you'll get nothing because never get enough with the love that you already have before this.

What is love? Some may say that it is just a four letter word. Some may say it is the best thing that ever happened to them. Some may even say that is it a worst thing that they have ever experience. I myself have never experience true love. But today, I will focus on true love between lovers.
Besides the love of my family, I only know of the idea of ‘true love’ from the movies that I have watched, from the songs that I have heard and from the books that I have read. And if what I have read, seen and heard is true, then the conclusion that I have come to is that…..love is sweet yet it is destructive and will fade through the passing of time.
After reading the four sonnets, I think my idea of love is closest to ‘Sonnet 64’ by Shakespeare which has the idea that love will eventually fade away.
It is undeniable that love is something great and is something well sought after by some people. If it was not, then there will not be demands for romance novels, love song, romantic movies or dramas. Everyone fantasizes about finding their soul mate and a love that would last for eternity. But I wonder if it is something worth sought after.
Remember the young love bird from the movie ‘Romeo and Juliet’? Remember Heathcliff and Catherine in the novel ‘Wuthering Highs’? All of them didn’t have a happy ending. And what is worst, their family suffered because of them. True the process of being together is sweetest. Some might even say it is the best feeling ever. But the there is rarely a happy ending at the end of that road. As we can see through the divorce rate that is higher now than it was in the past.
In my opinion, the only love that usually does not end badly is the love of a family member and the love between two lovers in a Disney cartoons. Therefore, I have come to a conclusion that ‘true love’ might not be for everyone. It is up to us to decide if the pain caused by ‘true love’ can be overcome by the short term happiness that we would feel. Or if we should try our best to maintain the love we have even when everyone else around is suffering due to our actions.
For Now, I would interpret ‘LOVE’ as ‘a Voyage that is full of Obstacles and most of the time, it is driven by Lust and Envy’. = L.O.V.E

Guys, I bet all of you have your favourite food. The food that gives you real satisfaction, where the flavor of the food that you hope never stopped running through your throat. What makes that food so special to you? What makes it so delicious? Why did you crave for that flavor so much? Well, of course because of the great flavor that fits you right? And where did that flavor come from? The delicious flavor. It comes from the recipe. The well mixed recipe, enough spices, enough sugar, and other ingredients that makes that food the perfect food for you.
Well, same goes for love. Love for me is a combination of some recipe consist of passionate love, jealousy, care, lust, companionship, trust, and many more of other thing. Actually we can’t really tell the full ingredients of love because there’s a lot of it comes from feelings. And when related with feelings, of course it’s complicated. But one thing we must know, a beautiful mixture of all this will bring up a beautiful passionate love for us. Put all of the ingredients into your relationship with careful amount. As example, a little jealousy is good, but when it’s too much it’s a disaster, not love. As for the girl, put some trust for your partner, it is good for both, but when you give all your trust, you might end up giving everything. I mean everything.
The main idea is, love is great. It gives you all of the feelings. Sometimes you feel happy, sometimes you feel sad, sometimes you get your heart broken, and sometimes you just feel like someone just gave you a new heart. It’s just so beautiful. With the exact amount of all those ingredients, you will experience the love of your life.

One powerful thing, aye?
Love in the noun form, as a thing, is a passion, an emotion for someone and something that gives pleasant feelings, fuzziness, comfort, security and hope. Love is something precious, something worth fighting for, something worth protecting, something worth keeping. Humans need it, humans struggle about it, poets write about it, poets try to describe it.. and it goes on and on, everything about love.
I believe everyone knows and understand Love in the noun form. In the sonnets, love is described to be perfect, to last long, some doesn’t last long, some gets threatened by death or time, some beautiful, some fierce and strong... But to love in the verb form?
Modern songs sing about catching a grenade for love, jump in front of a train for love, old movies talk about taking the moon for the beloved, novels and movies show love being so happy, so flowery, to jump into bed together... what about love in our normal day to day basis? What about the simple essence of love?
I believe that to love is to sacrifice ourselves for the other, to commit to the other and work things out, always seeking to honour the other, never to belittle or hurt the other. To love is to help the other to get better, support the other, never let the other walk down the path of ruin. To love is to speak the truth in love, with gentleness, always respecting the other and always caring for the other’s feelings. To love is sometimes to be hard in a proper way on the other so that the other will grow stronger, be wiser. To love is to be kind, to encourage and never bring down, always seeking to uplift the other, patient in dealing with the faults of the other, persistently believing in the other and rejoices in the other’s winnings.
To love is to not do things that will hurt the other (you know, having affair, lying, shouting, abuse and etc.) but always seeking to protect the other, to build the other.
But of course we are all imperfect humans and we have our faults. To strive for perfect love would indeed be quite impossible by human means. But we can all work at it, to do our best to love.
In the Christian context, God is love and all are summoned and greatly encouraged to love each other. The whole bible is all about God’s love which involves encouragement, punishment, giving gifts and the most ultimate one is sacrifice. I see love in two different ways.
Fairy tale love and realistic love.
A fairy tale love is just like love according to our imagination. We want our love one to be on our side 24/7, happy always, head in the cloud, doing things together, promises and so on. living together is the main objective, happiness came second. We embedded in our head that everything about love is so sweet, everything that comes along the ways can be easily tackled. Until at the some point in our life, when we realize, we are actually living with our imagination rather than love itself, we begin to blame others, even worse, blaming ourselves.
Realistic love, is love that purely bond with heart, it doesn’t need to be express by words, it comes straight from your heart, we can see through lovers eyes. When together, they are so synchronize, like a perfect song without rhythms and lyrics. They just perfect, the more you love someone, the journey is getting tougher day by day. Realistic love doesn’t see living together is the main goal, but the happiness of each other is the goal.
For me myself, I’m consider myself as a purist, I still believe in true realistic love, eventhough some say that true love is getting to extinct, but I don’t care. True love is about accepting the imperfect side of the relationship, the perfect things that pop up later is bonus.
Love isn’t just about dreaming about goods things, it’s about how to survive the worse together.

sometimes it is a nightmare..one can be happy with love and one also can suffer because of love. love is something that actually connect people to each other. even if it hurts people still wants love. why?? there is something that is really special about love. love can make the pain gone. love can make someone laugh. love also make someone feel free to do anything in their life. love is something that is unpredictable. love can make people really strong. protective and caring for each other. love also can wipe out the fear and arrogance. love is something that is priceless and cannot be avoided. so without love human is nothing. nothing in the world can be compare to love. it is so great that is even a mother willing to throw her life for the safety of her child. that is the power of love. people can sacrifice and willing to do it for the sake of others. it is love that make it happen. love..and only love have the power to change the world. where is the love??

ReplyDeletelove is an abstract word. it can be defined freely by anyone according to his own perception of love. most importantly, love is a sacred act. however, sacred does not mean it will bring only good things to the people who practice love. one may kill for the love of god. one may loot for the love of family. one may forsake in the name of love. likewise, love brings happiness still. a couple so in love will definitely tie their knot of course if they are fated to. but what about those who are not destined to be together? are they being cruel to themselves if they force into the disgraced relationship? that is why love is abstract. we cannot justify our love is true while others are not.

What is love actually?
Many of them are asking the same questions.
Couples are everywhere; love is everywhere; BUT is that true love? I don’t need love but I want TRUE LOVE.
What is true love then? Is it we have to die for someone as Keats in Bright Star called true love? Yes, death is an alternative to love but don’t you think when you die you are leaving him/her alone in this planet as in Sonnet 64, death will separate lovers? Everyone needs to face death one day and no one can avoid from this.
Love should be eternity as in Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 55 but unfortunately people take love for granted these days and make it complicated. That is why 'divorce' exist.
I believe there are true loves out there but only in a small number. Love is pure. The purity of love is sweet and wonderful. You will never feel the purity of love, you will never appreciate the feeling of true love if you never fall in love with someone before. Love is something that you need to experience it by yourself but not judge from other couples.
Love brings sweet memories and make up your day. Different people have different point of view about love but for me love is necessary in our life. You cannot force people to love you but you can love yourself as much as possible. It is better when you have someone else to love you.
With love, you will be appreciated;
With love, you will have a happy family; and
With love, your life will be more interesting.

Just like sonnet 55 and 64, the poet desired for an eternity love in his life, the fear of losing his love had made him frustrated and depressed.

to me is the most powerful ch'i that lives in every living soul. And as cliché as it sounds I believe that everyone will agree that it is infact very powerful! Based on the comments before mine and those to come, it just goes to show that love is so powerful that it does trigger your senses to think and ponder about it. Almost all the poems, songs and movies out there are about love. Humans are basically born to be intrigued to this subject matter as we need to love and to be loved..alas if not, why would Abraham Maslow include it in his hierarchy of needs?
Back to your question on which poem I could relate to..I must say that to decide which poem I could relate to is rather difficult because I would honestly say that I have felt it all but I am very touched by Keats' poem. Keats' Bright Star is very emotional and touching to me personally because I feel the despair and hopelesness he felt when he penned this poem.
Keats lived a short life and had to go through the deaths of his loved ones before he succumbed to his own death at a very young age. He was in love when he wrote this poem but unfortunately died not long after he dedicated this to his lover.
The question is how would it feel to be in love when you know that you will not be able to see your love one forever again? Knowing that the very minute you are spending with that person could be your very last memory together? It breaks my heart to picture this and that is why I think he has every right to feel that life is meaningless without his lover.
Whether one's view about love differ from the other..the one sole similarity is the fact that the power of love cannot be denied. Either it makes you or it breaks you..life is love and love is life!

When asked about this I was startled. Others may come up with many stories and answers while i went blank. The fact that i am in love with a man for almost 6 years now gives me a deep thought on what is really love.
it is obvious that love is all about sacrifice and giving yada yada.
love is when you set your prority straight, first let it be to the creator then your parents and next whoever that is in the list. i think you don't deserve to love others more than you love God first and your parents as well.
love is not equal. some may love more, some less. but what you gave to each other makes the equation balanced.
love is when you find peace without even trying, smile without a reason, cry for standing up to something or just merely smiling when you are sleeping. Then, you need no man to tell you that you are in love..you will know.
actually there two kind of people in this world as far as i recognised.... one is terribly practical and another one is very emotional !! sonnet 18 and sonnet 55 is similar to emotional people. why i said so ??? haha, yes in this poem, the poet said that love is eternal, no matter what happen to the couple, either one of died half way through, but still he believed that they will live in his/her memory... how true is this ? how many of them still practice this ... u die, i wont look for another and live with your memory... hmmmm !! OLD DIALOGUE.... :)

Instead of talking what's love about? I am more interested to talk about loving myself. You might be thinking Sammy is again being individualistic. All she can talk about is only about herself. Oh yes! You are right! I am more interested to talk about myself. What you don't realize is that people nowadays really do not know how to love themselves!
ReplyDeleteWhy talk about love when you don't even love yourself. You hurt yourself, you punish yourself when your love ones abandon you. Do you really know what's love after all? We tend to define love only to the scope of boyfriend/girlfriend and we forget about our parents that bring us to this world. When you pick up a knife and cut on your wrist, what you can remember is only how your bf/gf ill treated you. You love her/him so much that no one can replace them. You choose to die to make her/him guilty forever. Losing him/her is like the end of the world.
Don't see me as a cold blooded person. I have experienced losing a person that I once thought I love. But time does cure. Where I am now, I should say a thank you to him. Cuz i grow stronger and I know how to love myself now. It's not a selfish act. By loving myself, I love my parents too. This sudden awakening only started when I realise that to know what's love is to love myself first.

It's nothing really special and with the f word but it was how i felt that time.
Loving myself is as simple as having a Mcd hot coffee with 2 packets of creamer and 2 1/2 packets of sugar and not forgetting my McMuffin with chicken roll and hashbrown :)
Simple things that enlighten your day might seen as insignificant to others but who cares as long as you are happy.

Other opinion, people nowadays said love and money are equally important.. i agree somewhat.. but, i think love is unconditional.. but human put conditions to it.. everyone has the right to love, and be loved.. no matter he/she is good looking or not, wealthy or poor, clever or dumb, we all have d right to have the feelings of love.. even animals, nature have the right.. but day to day, people make it becomes more rigid.. if u want to marry, for men especially, u need to get enough money, u need d highest education, u have to look good. as well as to women.. they have to be beautiful, adorable, and intelligent enough.. so how about other people who dont deserve this?'...people who are not able to get those oppurtunities? doest it look unfair..? because people put conditions to it, love become harder and harder day to day... nowadays, love is about competition. isnt it? it doesnt look like for everyone..hurm~

for this post i choose all of the three poems because that is love,
first sonnet 55,
this poem is actually saying that love in eternity. eternity because the love and the feeling will always be in a person heart. the love will never be faded because a person usually makes for just another one person.
but sometimes it will be like sonnet 64,
this is because when we are in love and suddenly something happens and that something will change everything either the third person, family or ourselves. there is true love but maybe not with someone that we are now, maybe she/he is still out there searching for us too.
and sometime we also can be like a bright star, because when we are a lone, we will now who is our true love because we are relaxing and try to think what is better for us. that is the true love and happiness that we are searching for.
sometimes, we also have to be alone in order to watch out love ones to be happy even though with another person.
as a conclusion here, in a relationship, we need to give more rather that asking for more. if you cant give back, don't ask. =)

ReplyDeletelove will never be the same interpretation in one's opinion..love is something complicated that something you will never know how it is happen to yourself, its just happen just like that ..you never ask it, itself will come and brighten your life,and when its come to the dark just be careful because it can give you pain that you'll never forget..it is easy to like someone to love someone in one day..in one week..one month or maybe years..but to forget someone you love..it takes the whole life and still you have the love even it is just a bit in your heart...
