Learning to laugh at Yourself: A panacea for the Doubters

It has been a grueling 2 days. I know majority of you wished you were elsewhere.
For 14 hours you talked, you discussed, you shared, you presented and you role-played. Never before your vocal chord was stretched to its very limit.
Was it time well spent or was it 2 days of regrets?

Take at least few minutes of your time to reflect and share with me your experience of that 2 days.

  3. Hi Dr. Juridah,

It was absolute fun 2 days. It is not everyday we as UPM students get to be a poet, an actor, a singer, a salesperson, a debating lawyer, an interviewee, an interviewer and a homosexual in 14 hours.

Kinda felt bored in class today, Haha. But I am looking forward for more Finishing School classes similar to this. But more importantly looking forward for more instructor/facilitators alike you. (oops not intending to flatter anyone hoho >.<)

There are no limits to what extend we can improve our English. I too felt my confidence and proficiency increased after this.

By the way, I cannot find your name in FBMK website. Out of curiosity: Are you a lecturer for TESL in FBMK?

    Hope to contact you

  5. Oh gosh! I feel like I had presented all the assignments for one semester just within 2 days. Luckily I am using typing instead of speaking nw..haha XD

Although tiring due to the long hours for two days, but this finishing school program was indeed REALLY FUN!

I do feel I had get a booster for confidence in speaking English.

I enjoyed very much with all the other 'temporary coursemates', they are so committed and nice to talk to. Our class rocks!

And most importantly thanks to you both facilitator for being so encouraging and giving us those valuable comments. I shall remember the good days we spent together~

Gambateh! All the best to all! ^o^

  7. Hi all,

Shawn, i'm in Faculty of Educational Studies.

I would like to thank each and every one of you for making it a worthwhile weekend for me.

We experienced a lot of activities yea? But which one of those activities a no-go and I should just chuck it into the dumpster? Anything worthwhile keeping?

Please remind your new found friends to visit me here and pour their hearts content on the weekend we shared the confined space and breathed the recycled oxygen.

Remember, language is a skill. You have to use it always. Last weekend should be a launching pad for those who feel intimidated with the language before. There isn't any sargeant who will scream down your neck each time you stumble. So, keep on going and keep on using the language. Learn to laugh at yourself. That is my best advice.
    au revoir.

  8. Hi Dr Ju!

    It's Lambert here :D

Actually the 2 days was quite fun, and honestly before it started I expect it to be kind of boring...and I'm quite surprised when it's not after the first day haha.

I love the poem reciting and acting part, even though I'm not good at both. And I love the fact that we're not too tied up with the module as it would be too linear and predictable if that's the case.

I also enjoyed the time spend with both of the facilitators and other students and managed to know a lot of people.

I do hope that the 3 of us prove that medic faculty students are not as geeky/nerdy and boring type as stereotyped by others :p

Thanks for your advice during the last day and I hope to improve my spoken English skill :)
