Blue, blue, blue - the sky is blue

Before we move on to the next novel; I would like you to look closely at Great Expectations. In your paper on relationship, you would have analyzed most of the major issues in the narrative.

Previously, in my lecture I have shared with you the descriptions of weather, season, time of day, day and how these descriptions are used as predictors of what you would come across later in the chapter.

Your task is to choose one of these (weather, season, time of day, day)and discuss further how the use of, say for example gray and stormy weather, informs you of what you read next in the chapter. Sorry people descriptions of weather in chapter 39 is mine. You have to look elsewhere.

  2. Dear Madam,
    Chapter 3
It was a rimy morning, and very damp. I had seen the damp lying on the outside of my little window, as if some goblin had been crying there all night, and using the window for a pocket-handkerchief. Now, I saw the damp lying on the bare hedges and spare grass, like a coarser sort of spiders' webs; hanging itself from twig to twig and blade to blade. On every rail and gate, wet lay clammy; and the marsh-mist was so thick, that the wooden finger on the post directing people to our village - a direction which they never accepted, for they never came there - was invisible to me until I was quite close under it. Then, as I looked up at it, while it dripped, it seemed to my oppressed conscience like a phantom devoting me to the Hulks.
This is the day when Pip has to go out to fullfil his promise to a convict escaped that he finds in the grave yard.He promises that he would come to bring the man food. however, Pip seems to be blocked by the unsatisfactory weather.Pip personify the rimy and damp morning is lying all over the places like a coarser sort of spiders’ web that spread at everywhere. The weather seems to Pip as an indicator that he shouldn’t go. I suppose that Pip finally continues his journey for the code of honour. Promise is promise; not to be broken or illiminated.if it isn’t, he should have told his sister or the policeman.
the use of weather in this chapter showing us how Pip commited to the task he has to fullfil despite the hardship he is facing. He is a risk taker as he never knows what lies ahead. he could be killed to face an unknown person. As the bad weather Pip describes in the first place, we now can foreshadow things might happen in the next stage- Pip meets other convict. The new convict makes Pip more frightened, oppressed and the feeling of guilty .He goes home with broken heart because he breaks his promise to the first convict but he has to run away for his own safety .This event is as bad as the weather in the morning that Pip describe earlier. As a boy he shouldn’t have experinced the such agony. Saria Limpot (J38828)-semester 6

    What words can't

    Sense and Sensibility
    Jane Austen
    Chapter 27
    Collins Classic ( pg 162 )

Khaymalatha Balakrishnan ( 153271 ) as Marianne Dashwood

Abdul Salam Mohd Rabi ( 154595 ) as Colonel Brandon

Her letter was scarcely finished, when a rap foretold a visitor, and Colonel Brandon was announced. Marianne , who had seen him from the window, and who hated company of any kind , started to leave the room.

Colonel Brandon runs after Marianne and catches her hand, forcing her to turn towards him. She pull her hands away from him.

Marianne : Colonel, don’t you know how to observe propriety?

    Colonel : Miss Dashwood,
I do not wish to distress you, but, why do you keep running away from
    me?

Marianne : Because I do not want to be disturbed. Don’t you understand?

Colonel : I don’t think that you merely don’t want to be disturbed. I think that you are running away from me. Why Miss Dashwood? What have I done to displease you?

Marianne : Colonel, please, leave me alone. I do not wish to speak to you now.

Colonel : Not unless you answer my questions. I think I deserve answer.

Marianne : Colonel, I do not want to speak to you, I do not want your opinions nor your pity, along with your mockeries, which you deliver in your pompous manner. Oh please, just leave me alone. Go away. ( Sobs )

The colonel is surprised, while Marianne just leaves him, staring after her.

This was our act...hope you liked it....

Edward: Actually i planned to tell you earlier. But I'm afraid that you will not accept me anymore.

Elinor: You could have at least told me earlier.

Edward: Elinor please trust me. I really need you to trust me.

Elinor: How can i trust you when you are already engaged with someone else?

Edward: I had no choice. It was my past. But now, I could only see you in my future.

Elinor: Enough! Stop all your lies. We shouldn't have met in the first place. Wake up from your dreams and face the reality.

Edward: Please give me a chance to explain. I will solve all the problems.

  6. WUTHERING HEIGHTS
    VIOLENCE
    CHAPTER 27 – 30

    Khaymalatha Balakrishnan 153271
    Isolde Hon Pei Sha 152560

    Chapter 27

Violence in this chapter is clearly shown when Heathcliff locks Nelly and Catherine in Wuthering Heights against their wishes and refuses to let them go back to Thrusscross Grange. This is because he does it against their will and they have no defence against him, a powerful man in aspects of strength.

Heathcliff even threatens to hit Catherine when she demands the keys from him. He says to her that “ Now Catherine Linton, stand off or i shall knock you down; and that will make Mrs Dean mad.”

For a man of his energy to tell that to a young girl is deemed violence.

Other than that, in this chapter, the young Catherine shows defiance towards heathcliff, and she does it in a fit of anger and temper. Heathcliff recognises the fit of temper and that seh inherited it from her mother. This is a sort of violence as a young woman does not show her passions or anger openly in that era.

    Chapter 28

In chapter 28, Catherine Linton is forced to marry Linton. Catherine is not allowed to visit her dying father and this is violence. As she, as a daughter would surely wish to visit her dying father, and when she is stopped from doing so, her heart would have ached and pained at the denial of her right.
Linton here, is not being a supportive husband. Rather he is gloating over getting all of Catherine’s possesions as it is all his now after the marriage. This is violence too because as his wife is grieving, he is not comforting her, rather he is being happy on what he has gained from the marriage.

    Chapter 29

On Chapter 29, violence is again exerted when now, Heathcliff comes and forces catherine to his house to care for Linton, who is her husband. This is against her wishes.
Catherine too displays her anger by lashing out at Heathcliff and tells him that nobody will ever love him. This can also be regarded as violence.

He also relates to Nelly that he has dug the late Catherine’s grave and slid in to sleep with her. This can be violent in a manner where he has disturbed the dead from the peaceful slumber. He also does not want Edgar Linton to know “ which is which “ because he has broibed the sexton to bury the body back in a different position.

    Chapter 30

In this chapter, we see that Heathcliff is being cruel as he does not even want to send for a doctor when Catherine asks for one to tend to Linton, who’s condition is worsening, this shows violence in a cruel manner, where the own father does not care anymore for the son’s suffering.

Catherine too is treated cruelly after her husband dies, and she has work for her keep, which is cruel, as she does not have any relations or friends anymore. This too is a form of cruelty and violence towards a helpless woman.

  9. Sense and Sensibility
    Chapter 29
Short act between Marianne and Willoughby
by Adiba Zailan and Nurul Dinie Alias

    MARIANNE :
"How surprised you will be, Willoughby, on receiving this; and I think you will feel something more than surprise, when you know that I am in town. An opportunity of coming hither, though with Mrs. Jennings, was a temptation we could not resist. I wish you may receive this in time to come here to-night, but I will not depend on it. At any rate I shall expect you to-morrow however my expectations are false and i am very disappointed in you. when you did not turn up, i assume that you will have some explanation for me, but again you leave me in vein.
I am perfectly ready to hear your justification of it. You have perhaps been misinformed, or purposely deceived, in something concerning me, which may have lowered me in your opinion. Tell me what it is; explain the grounds on which you acted, and I shall be satisfied, in being able to satisfy you. It would grieve me, indeed, to be obliged to think ill of you; but if I am to do it, if I am to learn that you are not what we have hitherto believed you, that your regard for us all was insincere, that your behaviour to me was intended only to deceive, let it be told as soon as possible. My feelings are at present in a state of dreadful indecision; I wish to acquit you, but certainty on either side will be case to what I now suffer. If your sentiments are no longer what they were, you will return my notes, and the lock of my hair which is in your possession."

    WILLOUGHBY :
"I don't think there is anything wrong in my behavior last night. and I don't know at which point I did offend you. I entreat your forgiveness of what I can assure you to have been perfectly unintentional. I also want to express my esteem for your whole family and I am totally regretted if I ever gave you any reason to believe that I felt differently for you. Oh, there is another thing I want to inform you that my engagement will be held in this couples of week. And yes, here are your lock of hair and your three notes which you give me. Goodbye my dear Marianne."

Violence in chapter 5 and 6
    by Adiba Zailan and Vikneswary

    Chapter 5
there is no violence in this chapter.

    Chapter 6
The death of Mr. Earnshaw makes Hindley the man of the house. He starts to take his revenge on Heathcliff by enable him to get education and make him work as a labour in the field. This actually shows the mild violence by Hindley who has grunge on Heathcliff.

Back in the Thrushcross Grunge, the Linton's family seems more gentle and civilized than the Ernshaw's but they actually have violence in their hearts.
When Heathcliif and Catherine laugh at Isabella and Edgar's foolishness as they fight over a puppy, Mr. Linton release their bulldog named Skulker to chase after Heathcliff and Catherine.
Skulker bites her ankle when they try to escape.

  11. Hello, Puan.Ju.
Shiau Yin (154568) and Fatin Nabila(153451)here.
Below is a dialog between Willoughby and Marianne from the novel "Sense & Sensibiliy".

    Chapter : 50

    Cast :
    Shiau Yin (154568) as Willoughby
    Fatin Nabila (153451) as Marianne

One fine day, Willoughby and Marianne met each other at the park.

    Willoughby :
    Hello, Marianne.

    Marianne:
    Hello, Willoughby.

    Willoughby :
I heard you just got married.

    Marianne:
    Yes, tis true.

    Willoughby :
    Are you happy?

    Marianne :
    Yes, I am.

    Willoughby :
I'm glad that you are happy. But it still breaks my heart that you married to Colonel Brandon.

    Marianne:
I am sorry that you feel that way. But I do not regret my decision. He cares for me very much.

    Willoughby:
But does he love you as i have? Do you love him as you love me? Will you be truly happy with such marriage with just the simple affectionate love that he can offer you? I think not!

    Marianne:
How dare you say that! What he and I have is true! It is love! Love in it's true form. I don not deny what you and I had special, but it broke my heart into a million pieces. But Brandon loves me. He cares for me. And most importantly, he will never break my heart. This I can promise you. Good day.

    Willoughby:
    Oh please, Marianne.
    (taking hold of Marianne's hand.)

    Marianne:
    It's Mrs. Brandon to you!

    Willoughby:
I am sorry, Mrs. Brandon. Please, don't leave just yet. I am truly sorry. But please listen to what i have to say.

    Marianne:
All right. But please be quick!

    Willoughby:
I will. I promise. I am truly glad that you are happy. Truly I am. But I still wish for you to know how I feel.

    Marianne :
Mr. Willoughby. Please stop this nonsense immediately.

    Willoughby:
Please. I beg you to listen.

    Marianne :
Very well. But please be brief!

    Willoughby:
I will! I promise! I have a confession to make, Marianne. The love I have for you will never fade. You are the perfect woman that I should never have let go. But alas, I have no one to blame but on my own stupidity! The only thing in this world that can bring me the tiniest bit of joy from losing you is my hunting and my breed of horses and dogs...

    Marianne:
    Is that all, Mr. Willoughby?

    Willoughby:
    Yes.

    Marianne:
    Good day then, Mr Willoughby.

    Willoughby:
    Good day, Mrs. Brandon.

    assalamualaikum and hi puan ju...

    for this post....
i would like to give some of my thoughts.

this novel, i haven't read it to the end but i do recognise the elements of weather in this novel.

first, at the beginning of the novel, when Pip was at the tomb, the place was misty and not very clear. this foreshadows that Pip's future still not guaranteed. this event also foreshadows that the ending of this novel is not clear. it depends on what the readers want this novel to end with. we also can say that the misty weather at the tomb represents Magwitch himself because we do not who is Magwitch. at the beginning of the story, he was a convu=ict but in the middle of the story, he became Pip's benefactor and we never expect this to happen. so, we may say that Magwitch was mysterious person. so, we also look at the moral value that do not judge people with the appearance but with what is inside them.....the hearts.... <3

another weather that i found in this novel is on chapter 58 as a read through the summary. in this chapter, the weather was in very good weather because Pip will be meeting with Joe and Biddy and Pip was actually want to take Biddy as his wife. we can say that the weather is being ironic because when Pip arrive at his childhood home, he found out that Biddy was going to marry Joe and he was so frustrated and very disappointed. we also can say that, the weather was representing the happiness of Biddy and Joe. other than that, we can say that even though Pip was frustrated but Pip was still happy for Biddy and especially Joe because Joe was very kind to him and he deserved to be happy.
the moral values here, we can say that never take things or people for granted and appreciate them as who they are. we also need to be happy for our family happiness we are happy when our loves one are happy. =)

i think that's all from me....i hope i manage to give my thoughts on this novel.

    thank you.. =)
